Not that you ever need a reason to celebrate or throw a party, but if you do need a reason just look up some of the unofficial holidays that are celebrated in the US. You can find everything from National Talk Like a Pirate Day to National Wear Pink Day and a ton of other fun holidays in between. I ran across this funny website PartyExcuses.com and spent over an hour just browsing through the list of unofficial holidays. With so many to choose from I decided that I would put together a list of my ten favorites each month so you will always have a fun reason to celebrate that month. So without further ado here are my ten favorite unofficial holidays for August. Happy celebrating!
August 6th: Wiggle Your Toes Day
August 10th: Lazy Day
August 11th: Play in the Sand Day (I think I can check this one off since I am at the beach!)
August 15th: Best Friend's Day
August 16th: National Tell A Joke Day (It's knock, knock time!) and it's also...
National Rum Day (maybe that is how all those jokes sound so good?)
August 18th: Cupcake Day
August 24th: National Waffle Day
August 26th: National Toilet Paper Day (genius!)
August 27th: Just Because Day (Why not?!?)

What is your favorite unofficial holiday to celebrate?

As with every shift in fashion you will see similar changes in designs and of course events. While I love the simplicity of basic white on white china I love to check out new ideas and see what is influencing the accessories of an event like new china patterns, utensils, serving dishes and table settings. At some events the table setting is the main decorative piece so you want something that will lend itself to your overall creative idea, not look outdated or out of place. A few weeks ago I shared with you a great guide on the proper way to set your table for your event. So for today’s post, thanks to BizBash and a few other ideas I found, I have 10 perfectly on-trend table settings to help you create your next event table setting.
1. Preppy Twist from Party Rental Ltd.
2. Olympic Gold from from Something Different Party Rental
3. Modern Drama from Paterson Party Center
4. Exotic Sparkle from Atlas Party Rental
5. Farmhouse Chic from Tablescapes
6. Gatsby Inspired from Classic Party Rentals
7. Silver Simplicity from Chair-Man Mills
8. Pretty in Pink from BBJ Table Fashions and New England Country Rentals
9. Tropical Brights from BBJ Table Fashions and New England Country Rentals
10. Romantic Mint & Gold from 100LayerCake

Which table setting is your favorite?

I am a huge fan of color and love all the bright vibrant colors that accompany the summer season. Everything from summer fashion, flowers, foods and events are filled with so many colors which is what makes some of these colorful evens so much fun to take part in. So as a great way to infuse your Tuesday with some color I have put together a list of 10 colorful events that you can be a part of or even host this summer.
1. The Color Run. The Color Run 5K race is still one of the quickest selling events in America! Start the race with your friends all in pristine white and end in one colored mess.

2. Paint and Sip Party. I don’t think I need to explain much with this one. You get to paint a fun picture while enjoying your favorite glass (or bottle of wine) with friends.
3. Live Painting Entertainment. Lilly Pulitzer hosts many events throughout the year and as a part of the entertainment at their fundraisers and events they have live painting. What a great way to get a little colorful and raise money for a great cause!

4. Paintball Party. There is no better way to bring out everyone’s competitive side than with a little paintball color fight.

5. Colorful Kitchen Cooking. Grab a group and host a cooking class with all the colorful fruits and veggies that are so readily available during the summer. See who can create the most colorful dish!
6. Tie Dye Party. What better way to celebrate the 70’s than with a little psychedelic fun and create your own tie-dye creation.

7. Furniture Painting Party. Go on a run to a thrift shop or two to collect a variety of new chairs and then invite your friends over for a painting party to create your own mis-matched Friends themed kitchen table setting.
8. Holi: The India Color Festival. This festival of color was the inspiration behind many of the color runs that are offered in America today.

9. The Great Bull Run. You don’t have to fly to Spain to participate in this event anymore! The run and tomato royale event is coming to a city near you! Get ready for lots of colors as well as having a messy time.
10. Neon Splash Dash. The newest color run races are now hosted a night with glow sticks and paint with black lights. Get ready to be one colorful mess!

What other colorful events do you know and like to participate in?

Summer is the perfect time to grab your friends and head outdoors for some summertime fun. Today I have put together a list of ten great summer party ideas and themes. Some are pretty standard, 4th of July and Labor Day, while others have you getting a little more creative. Now all you need to do is send out those invites! Don’t forget mine!

1. First Day of Summer. On Friday, June 21st spend as much time as you can outdoors as this is not only the first day of summer but also is the longest day of the year (daylight wise). This is the perfect day to host an evening under the sun, I mean stars.

2. Outdoor Concert. Summer is when artists flock to outdoor amphitheaters and stadiums for the concert season. These venues usually provide for the perfect tailgating experiences as well. Plan on getting there early to snag a prime-time tailgating parking spot.
3. Yard Games. For those that enjoy a fun yard game host an afternoon of friendly competition. Games like croquet, cornhole, and bocce ball are great yard games that everyone can enjoy even while enjoying a cold summer cocktail.

4. Set Sail. A nautical theme is always in style and is loved by every preppy out there. You can host a nautical themed event down by the bay, at the river or in your own backyard. You don’t have to own a boat for this nautical party.
5. An Outdoor Picnic. There is no need to spend all your summer days indoors. Pack a bag filled with picnic supplies and head towards you nearest park for a fun afternoon hike with a picture perfect picnic at the top.

6. Fourth of July. A day off of work that ends with a fireworks show?!? Yes please! It is time to pull out all your red, white and blue party supplies and recipes for this summertime holiday celebration.

7. Pool Party. When the days start to get a bit too hot a pool party is the best way to cool down. Grab a cooler filled with your favorite summertime drinks, your swim suite and some floaties for the perfect pool party.
8. Backyard Movie Night. Once the sun goes down there are tons of fun summer nighttime activities to enjoy. Create your own version of a drive in movie night right in your own back yard by stringing up a large sheet and using a projector to show the evening’s selection. Don’t forget the popcorn!

9. Beach Party. For a water-loving girl like me you cannot keep me away from the beach during the summer. For those that live close enough plan a day trip to the shore for everyone to soak up some rays and have a little fun.

10. Labor Day. I consider this weekend the last weekend of summer and always spend it down by the river or at the beach soaking up the last rays of summer. This is also the perfect weekend to plan one last get-a-way before everyone gets back to their normal wok routine. Where will you be headed?

What is your favorite summertime event?

WARNING! Reading this post may make you want to eat mass quantities of doughnuts. If you cannot resist the urge please do not continue reading. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

I wish I had that warning before I started writing this post. As soon as I started searching for doughnut ideas for this week’s posts within a minute I had a craving for a doughnut (or two). The reason for all this doughnut talk? National Doughnut day is this Friday. This holiday originally started back in 1938 as a fundraiser for the Chicago’s Salvation Army to help raise money for those in need during the Great Depression and recognize the ladies who served doughnuts to soldiers during WWI. Who knew?!? Anyways in preparation for National Doughnut Day here are 10 yummy doughnut treats that will have your taste buds screaming for a bite!
Most national doughnut chains and local stores participate in National Doughnut Day by giving out free doughnuts. And of course these make the perfect party treat for any occasion. What is your favorite type of doughnut? I’m off to go track down the closest doughnut shop! Have a wonderful day!

We all know that mothers are the best people out there, so you better be ready for what better way to say “Thank You” to your mother this Mother’s Day than do something fun with mom. I have put together a list of ten great activities that you and your mom can do to celebrate Mother’s Day, now all you have to do is decide which one to do first!

1. Painting & Wine Class
Painting and wine classes, like these hosted by My Spirited Art in Richmond, VA, are a growing trend for the perfect girl’s night. Grab a few of your girlfriends and their mothers and make it a social event you all will enjoy!
2. Spa Day
Treat your mom to a day of pampering by sending her to get her nails done or a nice massage. You could even make her a cute at home spa day basket that she could use whenever she likes.

3. Plant a Garden
Plant a garden with your mom and she will love watching the flowers bloom and think of you when she is able to make a beautiful bouquet that she could display in this cute monogrammed vase you could get her.

4. Wine Tasting
For those who are 21+ treat your mom to a trip to a local winery where the two of you can enjoy a nice tour, wine tasting and maybe even lunch. As an added bonus you can buy mom a bottle of her favorite wine she tried to enjoy later!
5. Beach Trip
Have a few extra days or live close to the beach? Take a family trip to the beach and let mom relax by the water while reading a good book. (Just tell dad to handle the travel plans!)

6. Movie Date
Spend some quality time with mom by taking her to go see a movie together. I bet mom would love to go see The Great Gatsby this weekend!

7. DIY Tea Time
Get a little crafty for Mother’s Day and make mom a cute tea or coffee box with her favorite brews. You can even add in an adorable handmade mug by following this easy DIY mug tutorial from Lauren Conrad!
8. Wine and Dine
Don’t make mom cook this Mother’s Day. Take her out to her favorite restaurant or to a new one that she has been dying to try! No cooking or cleanup required.

9. Shopping Trip
Every mom loves a shopping trip so take mom to her favorite store and tell her to pick out something, your treat!

10. Get Active
You don’t just have to sit around on Mother’s Day. Plan for you and mom to attend a class at the gym together or head to the local park for a fun run or bike ride.
What are you doing with your mom this Mother’s Day?

It’s Derby Week!!  Last spring I shared with you some great derby ideas to help celebrate the Virginia Derby but of course that cannot compare to the pomp and circumstance of the Kentucky Derby. No matter if you are celebrating in Louisville or hosting a derby watching party at your home these derby essentials will have you ready. From the clothes to the drinks I will have you ready to celebrate the running of the 139th Kentucky Derby in true derby style!
1. Derby Hat. Bigger really is better when it comes to derby hats. Decorate yours with a monogram for the perfect preppy touch.
2. Bow Ties. Just like no girl should be without a hat during derby weekend no guy should be without a tie.
3. Preppy Patterns. Vineyard Vines is the official style of the Kentucky Derby. You really can’t be too preppy for this weekend’s events.
4. Julep Cup. This classic julep cup is the standard drinking cup on derby weekend. No exceptions.
5. Bourbon. From the drinks to the desserts you can find bourbon mixed into everything when celebrating derby style. You can even get your very own bottle of the Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby.
6. Sweet Tea. When you need a little break from the bourbon you can still sip in style with a southern glass of sweet tea (which may or may not be a sweet tea vodka).
7. Louisville Hot Brown Sandwich. This is a classic that is a local favorite created at The Brown Hotel in Louisville. Click here to learn how to make this classic sandwich.
8. Derby Pie. The original recipe of this Derby Pie is heavily guarded by Kern’s Kitchen but you can still try your hand at making your own version of the classic Derby Pie.
9. Race Decorations. When it comes to decorating, get a little crafty by making your own derby themed decor. Anything  horse related is perfect!
10. Roses. And what would the running of the roses be without any roses?!?! Showcase a beautiful bunch in julep cups, in a vintage silver trophy or by making a derby rose wreath.

Of course the horse is just a nice added touch for this derby get together, but isn’t always needed. You don’t have to limit these derby ideas to this weekend either. Find a local race track in your area, grab some friends and celebrate your own local derby! What is on your list of derby party essentials?
